Paul DeJong steps on home plate after a Tommy Pham RBI single

Starting Pitcher Chris Flexen was lights out on the mound in tonight’s series finale vs. the Tampa Bay Rays. Flexen, who did not allow a hit until the fourth, tossed 6.0 innings and struck out a season-high 8 batters.

Tampa Bay struck first in the bottom of the fourth on an Isaac Paredes RBI double. However, their lead did not last long.

In the top of the fifth, Paul DeJong launched a 2-run 400 ft homer to left field to bring home Bryan Ramos. This was DeJong’s second home run in as many games.

White Sox offense added a couple more runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend the lead. Bryan Ramos singled on a sharp ground ball to Jonny DeLuca to allow Andrew Benintendi to score from second base. Tommy Pham came through once again with a single to center to score Paul DeJong. Sox lead 4–1.

Rays would attempt a comeback in the seventh, but a clutch play by Gavin Sheets to double-off Isacc Paredes would foil their efforts, strand two runners and get the Sox out of the inning.

On the night, the White Sox offense totaled 12 hits. Tommy Pham was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Andrew Benintendi was 2-for-4 with a run. Bryan Ramos was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Paul DeJong was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Sox pitchers allowed only 4 hits. Chris Flexen earned his second win of the season. John Brebbia came in relief and pitched 1.2 innings with 3 strikeouts. Michael Kopech earned his third save of the season and secured the season series vs. the Rays.

The Chicago White Sox defeat the Tampa Bay Rays, 4–1, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
